Citizens For Marlboro County was organized in 2004 by a small group of citizens concerned about the future of Marlboro County.  What started out as a small group has now turned into an enormous gathering of all races to try to change the "bleak face" of Marlboro.

One of our recent accomplishments was to join Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League (BREDL) to fight against a proposed MEGADUMP in Marlboro County.  Landfills and MEGADUMPS are potential health hazards which destroy our land and fresh water supply. Once our land and water are contaminated, they are contaminated FOREVER!

Join the Citizens For Marlboro County that took the time to educate themselves on these dangerous health hazards.  HELP US IMPROVE MARLBORO COUNTY!

The State is publishing a week-long series detailing the shortcomings of DHEC

"DHEC under fire:
State regulators have given polluters breaks, withheld information from the public and pushed development over the protection of natural resources. Has the agency that’s supposed to safeguard the environment and our health lost its way?"

Click here to read the whole series
(starting 11/16/08 and ends 11/24/08).

Help Us Prevent A Megadump from locating in Marlboro County

DO YOU KNOW...

The Lee County (Bishopville) landfill is approximately 250 acres.  MRR is trying to permit a 900+ acre landfill... yes 900+ acres on a 4700 acre tract... plenty of room for future expansion.  This would be the largest landfill in the United States.  They would import trash into Marlboro County from all over the East coast; from Maine to Florida and areas to the west.

Marlboro County produces a total of 13K tons of waste per year..  if this landfill is permitted, it would import 13k tons of waste in only 3-4 days.  It would import in 3-4 days what it takes Marlboro County a year to produce!  Do you want the entire east coast to be dumping their trash on Marlboro County?
